He's Here!
Cody James was born May 28 at 9:53 PM... after 24 hours of easy (epi) labor and 3 hours of torturous pushing. I went into labor on my own late afternoon on Tuesday. No induction! Although I did eventually have pitocin. I had a hard delivery, could not get him past my pelvic bone. They needed the vacuum - but eventually - there he was.
He is perfect...weighs 7lbs 12oz and is 21 inches long. He has strawberry blond hair and blue eyes.
We are thrilled and hope to take him home tomorrow.
I feel ok, just sore. No blood transfusions needed! And - my pain from the previous adhesions - G O N E !!!!
Scott is sleeping (was a great leg holder & coach) and I am waiting for them to bring Cody back from his bath.

Happenings...
I find it very interesting that as soon as appointments for induction are made, labor starts progressing. It is now the middle of the night on the 27th and I am wondering if Cody may appear before Thursday and without Pitocin. Stay tuned....

Appointment Update
Just got home from the doctor appointment, everything is set up for Thursday. We have to be there at 7am. I am still stuck at less than 2cm dilated, but I don't need the extra procedure Wednesday night. Everything else is great. Baby's heatbeat is steady at 160 and he is positioned and ready to go. The doctor said he is not going to be a big baby, 7lbs - maybe less. Now I am off to make sure everything is ready!

The Question of All Questions
My back hurts, my side hurts, I'm exhausted and cranky.
Could the end be near? Please?
If someone says yes, I will give them a dollar. A whole one.

Happy Due Date Baby!
The 26th is finally here and we all know that the baby is not. It's ok though, Scott and I are hitting the "to do list" fanatically and getting everything we need done scratched off. We can then spend the next couple of days relaxing and preparing - maybe sleeping. Apparently sleep is something we will never have again? Or is that a vicious rumor?

Due Date Tomorrow
I haven't got a lot to report - which is disappointing! Tomorrow is his due date and I really thought he would be here by now. It is hard to watch the minute hand move so slowly on the clock, but at least with the induction date set I know he has to come! Some changes indicate some kind of progress, but really nothing different than what I have been experiencing the last (long) 3 weeks. Contractions, pressure and boredom. The next couple of days will be busy with the last few things to check off on the to do list. Dr. Appointment on Tuesday where she will check dilation and decide whether I need to go in to the hospital on Wednesday night for an extra step in the induction. If so, they will put in a medicine to help dilate and then after a good night sleep while being monitored, the doctor will break the water on Thursday morning. I have heard that induced labors are a bit more intense because of rapid contractions, so I am a bit nervous about that. However, since I have never done this before, I have nothing to compare it to!

Induction Confirmed
Unless he decides to come before on his own, I will be having an induction on the morning of May 29th. The finish line is now in sight.... (((smile)))

Oh well
I called the doctor to ask to be induced. Unfortunately, she only induces on Thursdays, so it is too late for tomorrow. The next available would be next Thursday - May 29th.

Rough Night
Rough night. The contractions are getting more intense, but are so erratic. They are also "blowing up" into my ribs -I am afraid that the ligaments and damage in there will not heal. The Tylenol 3 doesn't help as much, and I am afraid of taking it. If it doesn't get any better later today, I am going to call the doctor. Other than that I am staying busy, my house has never been cleaner. I wish I could shave the hair off all the cats though - sick of furballs!

Feeling Better
The contractions have eased up a lot, back to being 10-12 minutes apart and mild. The pill the doctor gave me has helped and I was able to get quite a bit of sleep yesterday and last night. My next appointment is Tuesday the 27th, 1 day past the last official due date. Hopefully we will schedule the induction and know if Cody is even going to be a May baby or end up a June one! And to think they told me early on with my health history that he was going to be early. They also told me he would be a little baby - so I could end up having a ten pounder in June!

Some progress...then shot back down!
Last night after 5 hours of some consistent contractions lasting anywhere from 4-7 minutes, we went to L&D. However, we were sent home to "dilate some more".
Went from 1.5 to 2 - told to come back when I can't talk through the contractions. They gave me something to sleep, it helped. Luckily had my appt today with my doctor. She had no idea I was in L&D last night -they didn't even tell her or send her a report. ?? Anyway, the reason the "contractions" and pain were so intense is because everytime it contracted, the swelling would affect the ligament pain I have in my abdomen and cause pain to radiate everywhere. So the contractions were not as bad as I thought, because I was feeling the pain from that. Makes sense. And being a first time mother, I didn't know the difference. So my due date is Monday, and she said she will induce if I go past that. She did give me something for the pain. Maybe that will help. That is our Cody update of the day!

Dealing
Ok, so now we are dealing with inconsistent or false labor. All day yesterday I had timeable contractions (anywhere from 7-12 minutes) and cramping. Then they slowed down and are not even timeable anymore. It is getting frustrating - and with the consistent ligament pain, very irritating.

The 16th was a sham!
Nothing on the 16th! Hope that doesn't mean a Halloween baby. Scott and I are going out today to keep our minds off the waiting game. A trip to the beach, a drive through the nature preserve and then a nice dinner at our favorite restaurant. Looking forward to a nice relaxing day!
I just don't think Cody wants to come out yet. He doesn't like the price of gas, he is getting very irritated with the democratic nomination craziness and this disappointing season of American Idol is making it very easy for him to stay comfy in his little house. We can change all that, Cody, just come out already and join us!

Stalling a bit...
Just a bit stalled, oh well. I am having consistent contractions though - anywhere from 8-12 minutes. And abdominal pain, along with back pain. The worst part is when it contracts - it swells up into the torn ligaments under my ribs (which they can't do anything about until the baby is born) and that is excruciating. Because that is constant, I am thinking that will be worse than the actual labor itself. My next appointment is Monday, so I am looking forward to that. However tomorrow is the 16th, and I had a dream a couple of months back that I had a choice that he would come on May 16th or Halloween. At this point.... please don't let it be Halloween!!!!

Good news! I had my appointment on Monday, and Cody changed positions and is now head down and ready to go again. It was a good appointment too -found out that I am 1cm dilated and 75% effaced. The next day I started having some minor contractions, and then he dropped. I went from carrying him very high to him literally disappearing...
Here is a comparison picture... the picture on the left was taken last week. The picture on the right was taken on May 13th.
Hopefully we will have more progress in the upcoming days. We are so anxious to meet our baby boy!

Breech!
Cody has moved to a breech position and if he doesn't move by Monday afternoon, he will have to be delivered via c-section at 39 weeks. Hopefully he will move on his own this weekend and we can avoid that. However, if he doesn't, I'll make peace with delivering him in a different manner than planned.
I was breech...and I came out ok!

Nothing new to report
Showing some signs of pre-labor, but nothing major enough to think he is about to make his world debut. As of right now, we are looking at delivery in the next two weeks. Because of the nerve and ligament pain I am having in the rib area, I am hoping we don't go one second beyond his due date!

His Nursery is Done!
We have a sort of jungle theme going on in his nursery with plenty of stuffed animals! We went with a blue decor using the Amy Coe safari theme and the fisher price rainforest collection. The walls are naked though, in need of some art! Here are a few pictures...

Here are some of Cody's first pictures....
Ultrasound on Jan 3, 2008: The U/S tech called him a very cooperative baby. He gave us a variety of poses to view and even provided us with some entertainment while he chomped on his hands! I can't wait to see what he looks like when he is born.
The money shot!
