We got a smile!
A real smile - out of the blue. Well, not really... I spent a good twenty minutes making funny faces and gestures while simultaneously holding the camera and pleading for him to smile. I think I took 200 pictures to get this one..... BUT HE IS SMILING!!! Sort of....

Sorry I haven't updated this blog since Carter was president. It has been a busy couple of weeks! Cody is getting so much bigger - and longer! We go on Friday to the pediatrician to find out just how much he has grown. Finally he is starting to wear his 0-3 size clothes...which is great, because for newborn clothes all we had were sleepers my mom had to run out and buy him when we came home. I didn't expect him to fit into newborn clothes, so I didn't buy any.
He is starting to sleep better too - last night he slept through the night. Well, except for his 2am feeding and when he kept waking himself up with his barnyard animal noises. We still don't know what those are all about!
Other milestones... he rolled over. Of course it was on accident, not on purpose - but we'll take it as a sign that he is a brilliant boy capable of great things. He is smiling and it is not gas! He responds with smiles to his dad - they make faces at each other.
He will be a month old on Saturday! Time is flying too fast!

Like a kangaroo...
I need a cleaning service. My house is a dump, the cats have shed every single hair on every available surface and I have a baby attached to me 24/7. How does one vacuum with a baby hanging off you? Unless I want to eat my ice cold food off paper plates for the next few months, I knew we had to find some other kind of arrangement. Baby just won't stay put in his chair for that long. So... I bought one of these....

A tale of woe.... Cody's First Bath
Since we lost the cord, we are all clear for the first "real" bath. So, assuming all is well, we collect everything...including baby...and get started. Not as easy as it looks folks...
Step 1 -collect the necessities. Yes, bathing is something we have experience with - however, you can never go wrong with a manual of instructions.
Step 2 - put naked, slippery baby in bathtub. Easier said than done... he doesn't like being exposed and without a diaper. And... he is a screamer.
Step 3 - Start washing, as he starts screaming louder and in a voice we do not recognize.
Step 4 - Increase speed of work before baby turns purple and loses his voice.
Step 5 - Pull baby out and wrap tightly with froggy towel. Baby still not happy... in fact he is mad at mom.
Step 6 - Hand baby to dad - safe at last! I hope for forgiveness from baby....
Cody says never again will he consent to such a horrid experience... clean or no clean! And we had better listen to him!
Baby clean, dry, fed and swaddled. Happiness again.

Napping for the first time in his crib!
I was finally able to put him down for a nap in something other than his baby chair or my lap! He is resting right now in his crib. We'll put him there during the day, but continue to keep him our room until he is a bit bigger.

2 Weeks Old!!
I can't believe it has been two weeks since Cody has been born. They grow so fast - should I start shopping for a dress to wear to his wedding? I am so glad that I have this time to spend with him - I wouldn't want to miss a second of his life.

We slept last night!

Cody has fussiness during what they refer to as the "witching hour" (hours between 7-10 pm). We have discovered that our son is a screamer! What lungs he has to sustain that kind of screaming for such a length of time. And his strength - I think he is headed for the NFL. He kicks and punches with each scream and I never would have thought a newborn could pack such muscle! The good thing about these fits is that when he is done, he sleeps. For long periods of time. Godsend! Last night he was sound asleep from 10-3am and then 4am-8am!

Cody Meets the Grandparents!
Cody met both sets of grandparents in his first week! Grandma and Grandpa Anderson came to see him on the weekend, and Grandma and Grandpa Wagner came all the way from the snowy north just to meet him. Here's a few pictures....

A car seat is a great invention
He loves it! I was surprised, I thought he would have a problem with being confined. But he took to it well and spent a few hours this afternoon in it sleeping.
Appointment at the pedi went well. He lost a total of 12 ounces, but should regain that in the next week or so with his feedings.
Here are some pictures...

Big Day!
We are actually leaving our little cave today and venturing out for the first time since coming home Friday night. Today we go to Cody's pediatrician for his first visit. I hope to see some progress on his weight so we know how well our breastfeeding sessions are going. Judging by his diaper counts, he is on par with other 5 day old babies.
More exciting news for Cody too... Grandma & Grandpa from Michigan are coming tonight!
